Winter Classic II

Due to the success of the NHL Winter Classic in Buffalo this year between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres the league is planning a similar event next year. The question is where? It is thought that the NHL has narrowed it down to two possible cities, Pittsburgh and Chicago. Apparently the front runner for the event is Chicago. The game would be played a Wrigley Field (home of the MLB's Cubs) on January 1,2009. It is thought that the Detroit Red Wings would be the Blackhawks opponent due to their original six rivalry. On the other hand, if Pittsburgh got the game, it is assumed that they would play their rival Philadelphia, but this is only speculation. Unfortunately, Toronto would have a hard time bidding on this type of event because of the Rogers Centre roof. Trying to open it in the middle of winter could cause mechanical issues with it that are not worth risking for a single event. So with al of this talk about another Winter Classic next year, it seems like the NHL is going to make this an anual event. I know that I enjoyed the first one (Crosby game winning goal, shootout, 75,000 people,SNOW!) so I would be happy to see an outdoor game every year. One issue I have is that these games can only be hosted in cities further North. I would be impossible to keep an ice surface playable in downtown Tampa Bay or Dallas.

Video Review in Baseball

Once again the argument of video review in baseball has arose with the MLB. Many people agree that it is finally time for baseball to follow the other major sports and introduce video review on home runs. Obviously there are many baseball enthusiasts that believe that it would be bad for the game If they take out the human error element of sport. I personally think that is worth all risk (if there is any) to make the calls right. Nothing is more frustrating then losing a game on a bad call by the umpire.

Toronto Blue Jays: Recent Sucess

In the month of May the Toronto Blue Jays have a record of 17-9 with three games left this month. A few weeks ago nothing had been going right for the Jays except for thier pitching. Despite having one of the better ERA's in the majors the Jays record did not show it. Now all of a sudden the Jays pitchers are getting some run support and they are winning in bunches. The one cold bat on the Jays at the moment is Alex Rios who could stat to click any game. The amazing part about this stretch of wins is that it has been done (mostly) without their team leader Vernon Wells who was injured diving for a ball May 9th against the Indians. Also for a long stretch they were without their leadoff hitter David Eckstein and defensive marvel John Macdonald. The question is when these guys come back will it boost the team or split up the good mix of players and result in a worse on field product?

Spokane Cheifs Win the Memorial Cup(s)

Drayson Bowman scored the eventual winner in the second period and Dustin Tokarski was spectacular with 53 saves as the Western Hockey League-Champion Chiefs downed the Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers 4-1 in Sunday’s final.
The Chiefs, who finish a perfect 4-0 at the tournament, had not won the Memorial Cup since 1991.
Judd Blackwater, Jared Cowan and Trevor Glass scored the other goals for Spokane, and Brandon Mashinter scored Kitchener’s lone marker.

Stanley Cup 2007-2008 Thoughts.....

I just wanna know every one's opinion on who will win the Stanley Cup this year and why?

Personally I think the Pittsburgh Penguins will win the series purely because of their overwhelming offensive attack. I believe that Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will have no problem avoiding the Detroit defense and scoring on Chris Osgood. I think the Osgood has had an easy workload in the first three series seeing an average of around 20-22 shots per game. I think a increase in activity in goal will overload Osgood and the Penguins will find they will score around 3-4 goals per game because of this. Penguins in 6 games.

Broadcasters Predictions on Stanley Cup

Lance Berkman - MVP for First 50 Games

It is undoubtably obvious who the MVP of the Year is so far in the MLB. The Houston Astros First Baseman/Outfielder Lance Berkman. He has the second best batting average in the majors with .388, the most home runs with 16 and is second in RBI with 44 (stats have changed since video). At this pase he could become the 17th player in league history to lead the league in Batting Average, RBI's and Home Runs. The last time this award was won was in 1967 when Carl Yastrzemski had an average of .326, 121 RBI and 44 Home Runs (much lower than Lance's Projections). As long as he keeps up this pace he will definately be at least strongly considered for N.L. MVP.

Wednesday May 21- Celtics vs. Detroit

Welcome to my blog. This blog will provide you with make take and interpretation of the top two sporting events of every evening. To start off here is my coverage of Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Confrence Final between the Boston Celtics and the Detroit Pistons.

Boston sports fans have been treated to an exposion of athletic talent in the past two days. Yesterday, Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester pitched the 18th no-hitter in Red Sox history and the Cletics All-Star pairing of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce wowed the TD Banknorth Garden crowd with thier dominace on the floor. Garnett and Pierce had a combined 48 points (55% of Celtics points) 15 rebounds and 10 assists. What really suprised me about the Celtics was how energetic their team was overall. Their starting 5 seemed to have a endless amount of energy despite the fact that they had only one day off after defeating Lebron James and the Cavaliers in Game 7 on Sunday.

"Rest is not an option," said Garnett. "So we don't even think about that."

One player that I think did not get enough credit for their play last night was Rajon Rondo of the Celtics. Despite scoring only 11 points overall he scored 7 of them in the fourth quarter.

Many believe that the Celtics are going to run away with the NBA Championship, which could happen, but I wouldn't count out the Pistons. Until the Celtics get a convicing win in Detroit I still beleive that Detroit will make this a close series.
